About Us

Barton Brownsdon & Sadler is a fast-growing, UK based wine importer, based within the beautiful surroundings of the South Downs National Park, Sussex.

Started in 1985, founder, John Brownsdon set off for France – the birthplace of wine (maybe Italy too, at a push) – in his Motor home and spent a very long summer visiting vineyards and drinking from some of the best producers. His experience of the UK wine market and vast knowledge of the various regions and wine processes was finally awarded with many interesting vineyards wanting to work alongside him. Over time, with a growing list of suppliers, a new paunch and a fuzzy, wine induced head, he returned to the UK to show off his findings.

Over the next twenty years Brownsdon successfully marketed his collection of wines to the UK wine trade. As confidence grew so did his portfolio and range of customers. In 2004, John gently passed the reigns of the company to wine enthusiasts and business partners Giles and Nick Budibent who have worked hard to develop and explore ways to keep BBS interesting and strong in a competitive market while maintaining John’s original integrity.

Thirteen years on, Nick and Giles have added some superb winemakers to its portfolio; from the ever-reliable and great value Pacifico Sur Chilean varietal range to the cool and quirky Gravel and Loam Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, whilst still representing some of John’s carefully selected vineyards over thirty years later.

Barton Brownsdon & Sadler provide a personal, efficient service with the aim to source high-quality, interesting and good value wine from across the globe and distribute throughout the UK and internationally.
